Toby is General Practitioner (GP) at the Derwent Practice in Malton, North Yorkshire, who received a silver award for his work in improving diagnostic delay, as a Champion in Primary Care through delivering education, implementing electronic triage tools, promoting NASS and national presentations.

  • He has championed triage and assessment tools across his PCN by implementing the PRIMIS pop up tool across a series of practices, and has also driven changes to the Ardens GP and MSK templates for axial SpA assessment, ensuring latest criteria is embedded.
  • He has delivered a number of educational presentations to GPs and FCPs across Malton and the North Yorkshire region including in conjunction with his local rheumatology team. He has also presented at various national conferences on diagnostic delay including in parliament to the APPG for Axial Spondyloarthritis.
  • He has built relationships with the Rheumatology team at York hospital, agreed local referral criteria, and development of the local pathway to include GIRFT recommendations and the SPADE tool for assessment.
