Dr Tom Williams

Dr Williams is a Consultant Rheumatologist at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Royal United Hospitals Bath and has achieved a Silver award for his enthusiasm in driving down the delay in diagnosis through presentations, setting up pathways and data.

  • He is a founding member of the South West Axial Spondyloarthritis Group (SWAG) and Chair of Axial SpA Transformation And Redesign of Services (AxSTARS) which is part of the NASS integrated pilot as part of the Act on Axial SpA campaign and Aspiring to Excellence
  • He has worked with local GPs, First Contact Practitioners (FCPs) and orthopaedic interface services regarding local inflammatory back pain referral pathways, promotion of the NASS symptom checker and education. He had also promoted decision aids such as pop-up tools, and the SPADE tool as part of AxSTARS project.
  • He has established links with the Royal United Hospital, Bath’s gastroenterology department, developing a shared decision-making pathway and shared audit showing how common inflammatory back pain is in people with inflammatory bowel disease locally.
